Just Train Crazy Tips & Tricks

Tips & Tricks check back often for all kinds of model rail roading Tips & Tricks!

When using Floquil's new Rail rusting pens...remember to have a solvent soaked rag on hand,to immediately remove the paint from the rail head...try doing about a foot at a time.. then clean the railhead and continue.....Peter

When colouring tree trunks, avoid painting them brown, instead use a blend of gray & brown, don't mix the two colours, instead allow them to "streak" into each other for far more realistic results..a coat of "Dullcoat" will also enhance realism....Steve

When assembling plastic model structures, be sure to wash ALL components in warm soap & water...(and rinse), this will remove the molding lubricant from the factory and allow paint to adhere much better. Painting the interior walls of buildings will stop your lighting effects from showing through walls.....Peter

Stuff around the house and garage, Garbage or Gold? This here is broken pieces of "DRYWALL" from an old reno.

First step, using a water spray bottle pull the lighter paper off the drywall until you only have the plaster left.

Second step, cut the drywall pieces to fit where you are modelling on your layout.  Glue the paper side with carpenters glue to your layout.

Third step,  wet the plaster with your water spray bottle to make it more workable. Just a little is good.  With a blade cut & mold the drywall to your liking, remember, it's all about you!  your layout, your liking!

Fourth step, use Woodland Scenics stains to colour your drywall, let dry and if you are happy with the results lock the colour down with Woodland Scenics cement.

Fifth step, use your favourite ground cover, people, animals, rolling stock etc. and let your scene come alive!   Steve Micallef...

This is one of the coolest and most usefull products I have ever ordered from Just Train Crazy!

Cleaning track before a running session can take hours especially if you have a friend drop by that has not seen your layout.  DCC and DC track needs to be clean or you can have dead spots that you are pushing your Loco or banging on the deck of the table to get your Train to run.  Frustrating and sometimes embarrasing.  Well,  I heard from my friend "Ron" about this "CMX HO"  "The Clean Machine" so I ordered one from Peter @ Just Train Crazy.  It's the most amazing cleaning car/rolling stock/cleaning system I have ever used! The top left cap is for putting your cleaning solution in, I use rubbing alcohol.  The middle cap is for adjusting the drip of the cleaning solution to the cleaning pad.  Not only does it clean the top of the rail but it cleans down the sides as well.  Cleans turnouts and rerailers without a problem!  The "CMX HO" "The Clean Machine" is made out of brass, has steel wheels and comes complete with Kadee couplers. "The Clean Machine" weighs 1/3 of a Lb.  It's the BEST  $129.95 plus tax I have ever spent on my layout!   Tell Peter, Steve sent you!

Quick easy tip for Hydrocal Rocks
While your Hydrocal is setting up in the mold cut a toothpick in half and place it in the hydrocal.  Once set up you can place & remove your rocks on the scenery before you do the final glue. The toothpicks hold them there while the glue sets up plus you can move the rocks around until you are satisfied on where they are going to work best.  Steve!
